In connection with the introduction of the Heavy Vehicle Fee (HVF), and the accompanying obligation for all vehicles registered in Switzerland which are used to transport goods and have a maximum total laden weight of more than 3.5 t to be fitted with a TRIPON on board unit, the option was also created of making certain OBU data available to vehicle owners for other applications. The opportunities that have been opened up include modern fleet management, mail piece tracking, navigation and dynamic traffic control based on registered run data. It's up to us: anything's possible, but there's no compulsion.

Manufacturers of terminal equipment, software houses, operators of vehicle headquarters and depots etc, are challenged to develop a strategy that is perfectly tailored to the needs of their customers. Everyone stands an equal chance, because the data is made openly available at the IR interface of the TRIPON to anyone who wants to use it.
